  12. Imagine booting your PC with a floppy boot disk...
  13. Now imagine that you insert a second disk and the PC boocts into AmigaOS!!!

  17. The AROS Team have coded from scratch an AmigaOS compatable operating system. The idea was to build an OS identical in structure to AmigaOS, although AROS is heavily object oriented, it is identical

  19. in functionality to AmigaOS. This is not finished but is amazing to see.
  20. This archive contains two disk images;
  21. Disk one boots your PC and enters a debugging screen.
  22. Disk two is a standard AMIGA FFS formated floppy disk, slightly altered to fit a 1.4Mb disk (PC's only read 1.4Mb disks).

  24. To read/edit the boot disk image, simply load it into UAE as a hardfile. The disk is standard Amiga format so you can copy files to it, rename files, delete files and edit files (Startup-sequence for

  27. The Kernel disk image is not an amiga formated disk, as it is designed for a PC to read.

  31. When you boot your PC the first disk, the kernel disk, loads te AROS OS into the PC's memory, and opens the debugging screen (for delvelopers only). You can now remove the kernel disk, it is no longe

  42. INSTALATION & EXECUTION

  44. This is how to instal AROS onto a floppy disk using Windows95+
  45. If you use Linux then skip part 1 and just write the Images to a couple of blank disks and jump to part 2 of this file.

  47. Format two HD floppy disks

  51. Startup rawrite2.exe.

  53. Put the first disk in Drive A.
  54. Enter the name of the Disk image (aros-boot.ffs) press return.
  55. Enter drive name (usualy A) press return
  56. Wait for the disk light to go out.

  58. Remove the disk and keep it safe.

  60. Put the second disk in Drive A.
  61. Enter the name of the Disk image (aros-kernel.img) press return.
  62. Enter drive name (usualy A) press return
  63. Wait for the disk light to go out.

  70. Restart your PC, in the normal way (but with the kernel floppy still in the drive)

  72. the PC will now boot from the floppy (if it doesn't then some how you've booted with the wrong disk, you need to boot the PC with the Kernel disk)

  74. The PC will now enter a screen with the AROS logo at the top (This is known as the "Serial AROS Debugging" screen).

  76. Now take the kernel disk out of the drive and instert the other disk (aros-boot disk).

  80. you don't need to type a space after the QT, this is inserted automatically. But make sure you have 8 0s.

  82. The PC will now boot into AROS, it works exactly as AmigaDOS does so just play around and have fun.
